Retinitis Pigmentosa

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited eye condition which affects the retina resulting in a progressive loss of vision. This condition takes many forms or loss of periphery vision, causing tunnel vision or loss of the central vision or night blindness. All of these are caused by damage to the retina.

This loss of vision occurs over an undefined period of time, and usually starts without warning. For some people the vision loss is very slow taking several years while for other people it can degrade very quickly.

Although there is currently no cure, once RP has been detected the person can learn the skills they need to adapt to their new vision condition.
